Hey Guys,

I no longer keep up with hardware, but time has come to replace my gaming workhorse with something newer. I'm currently running:

i7 950 1366 bloomfield @ 4GHz
Asus P6X58D-E
2 x 670 GTX SLI
6GB DDR3 Patriot PC3-8500F
Auzentech XFI Prelude ( full PCI slot )

in a Corsair 650D.

What I'm looking to do is downsize quite a lot - I'm pretty tired of SLI as it's been nothing but problem after problem - graphics driver crashes, bugs in games etc etc.

I attend the occasional LAN and I don't have a very big car so the 650D doesn't really fit very well - so I'd like to move to something much smaller - potentially micro ATX. I am a big fan of Lian-Li so one of their cases probably. It doesn't have to be microATX though - as long it's much smaller than the 650D.

- I use a Dell U3014 @ 2560x1600 Resolution.
- I have 1TB SSD drives already.
- I have a Blueray Drive already, but probably wont need anyway.
- I have a Windows 8.1 license
- I'd like to put 1 or 2 of my 1TB SSD Drives in, and potentially a 6TB for storage.
- I have a 980W PSU but it's not modular, so I'd be willing to upgrade.
- I need optical or coax out for my speakers, and I'd like a high quality sound card of similar quality to what I have now.

I'd say the budget is around £1500 ex VAT (£1800inc) but it's flexible for the right setup.

What are my options? I'm not really into overclocking anymore - so something fast out of the box, and solid - capable of playing everything in my res at full settings if possible.

I do like that case, it's very compact. I am kind of leaning towards having the ability to upgrade to SLI at some point though, even though it's always caused me problems :D

I was also thinking something a bit beefier - but perhaps it's overkill - it does give the option to add another 980 in the future - and the case supports full ATX.

Having a look in other spec threads though, there seems to be no value at all around DDR4 / 59** setups... so I'm guessing I'd be splashing the cash for pretty much no reason ?

Would this be a better spend ?

2 GFX cards instead of 1, and cheaper overall!

Id go with the 250D build tbh! Lovely little case, just did a build for a friend in one. That said, it might struggle with your screen resolution.

In which case, go for 2 970's! Save you a fair few quid and you don't lose too much. You don't need a 1200W PSU either! I'd have thought 750w is enough for SLI 970's.

The great thing abuot the 980s is the low power consumption & heat and you could well get 2 of them in the 250D!

If you look on the back of the 250D there is only 2 PCI slots.. so I don't think you could fit 2x980s in there?
