Lan - surely not hard!

I am having some problems with the wireless on my BT Home Hub, so I am trying out a cable directly.

Normally, I thought this just connects automatically, but now its not.

When I go to network connection wizard, it says it cannot find my network hardware - is this even the right thing to do?

I thought that with a HomeHub, or any router, the internet is always 'shooting' down the cable, which then instantly connects when connected with a computer.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I am at a bit of a loss!

Normally with a network cable it just works, you wont need to use connection wizard.

when the wires in try doing an ipconfig /all in the command prompt and see if your assigned an IP
