LAN - Wifi shared connection

I currently connect to the office network using a ethernet cable. I don't get any phone signal in the office so I'd like to create an ad-hoc network between my PC and my phone, that shares the wired internet connection...

I set the LAN connection to shared, I created an ad-hoc wireless network on a little usb wifi adapter I had, and then connected to this on my phone, but my phone doesn't want to connect- doesn't obtain an IP address?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Ask your IT department. Could be grounds for firing you if you're just doing as you please.

Do you not think that they would provide wifi if they wanted you to use it? Maybe there is a reason they don't.

I am the IT department

That is to say I am the most tech savvy person in the 20-person company so I am"informally" tasked with management of the computers and printers...

However the network will be managed by Arena or whoever they contract to do it so will it possibly be blocked by them?

So in that case the best option is speaking to whomever manages your network about deploying a wifi access point then.
