LANBOY Air

Looking at some videos explaining it it is a very interesting and innovative concept, but needs an extreme amount of refinement for it ever to be even considered an enthusiast case. I find the fact that there are no exhaust fans interesting, it relies on the positive air pressure to push hot air out of the holes. I would like to see how this effects temps.

But aestheticly an absolutely hideous wreck of a case, part of their new line of products that really undermines the quality of their older ones.

I think i would find one of the skeleton cases more practical than this. At least you know its not trying to be something that it isnt.

I got to thinking that the reason we all mod, the point of modding if you like, is to take something that looks the same as everyone else has, the vanilla case as it were and transform it into something that looks diferent.

Why is it then when something that looks diferrent at the outset usually (and i'm not just talking about this case or this manufacturer) so unanimously rejected? Personal taste apart there appears to be something of a pack mentality.

Do think this case looks diferent? yes
Do I like it? yes
Do i like other cases also? yes
Do I think antec might be trying to broaden their product base by testing the boundries of niche markets? yes.

But most importantly, do I think it offers great potential for Modding

YES

Agreed. IMHO, the gaming/ enthusiast case market is becoming one of the very things it set out to change. 10 years ago, all PC's were boring beige boxes....these days they heading towards becoming boring black boxes. Not that I think modern cases are as bad as a beige box, but many designs are looking very alike these days. I say fair play to Antec for having the balls to experiment with new ideas.

Also, have any of the neigh sayers here actually see this case in the flesh? let alone built/ tested with it? ;)

In answer to your last point Andy yes i got to play about with one yesterday and while it wasn't as bad in the flesh as the video's make it look being honest i wasn't that impressed with it given the price bracket it is in. I found it to be a bit flimsy in terms of side panels although the main frame is certainly strudier then it looks and i wouldn't have any worries about moving it around. Very few have argued that it isn't an innovative case and has some good features but as an overall product it just hasn't got enough to grab a majority of people in and make them happy to build a system in it.

I don't think were back to the situation we were in a decade ago by any means i think many more people are catered for now then have ever been and modding has also come out of the shadows a lot with more people being prepared to try things they once upon a time wouldn't. Like it or not people like to have something visually good holding their kit and this while certainly different is no "good looker".

well put mate.

will certainly be a "Marmite" job like a lot of extreme kit these days.

what about performance/ temps? Anything to report? :)

My opinions are torn on this. on paper, it sounds like a great idea. A fully modular case, huge cooling potential, and I especially like the elastic mounted hard drives. But then you look at it...

Fair play to Antec for trying something new, I just think it needs a bit of work in the aesthetics department

"what about performance/ temps? Anything to report" Sadly no it was at a local pc shop and they had it ordered for a client but as i used to work there and still pop in at times we had a play with just the basic case and tried a few fans in different positions. I can report that fan placement won't be an issue no matter how anal you are on fans but i have to be honest i can see this being a nightmare couple\few months down the line in terms of dust and other minute debris. I think that will be one of the main stories with this case initial reviews will be positive but user experience after time will be less so. Time will tell this could turn out to be the hit of the year and OcUK may make a fortune off them but i won't hold my breath just yet :).
