I go to a public school, now here 2 people have these cars and they think they are the best cars since sliced bread, everyone else thinks omg! defender, so cool!
All they are used for afaik is going to and from school daily, now afaik these are absolutly terrible at any of that, 15 secs 0-60 and top speed of 87 mph, they sound kinda crap to me,,

or is there something else that I am missing?

Depends, Defenders look cool imho, very good offroad....

Just say couldn't your mummy afford a proper school run 4x4 like an X5 or X3............

To me, they're really for either enthusiasts, or for somebody to say, look at me, I'm driving a bloody good offroader, in the city. I'd love one though :p Though I'd want it for going offroad and messing around, not as an everyday car as they are very uncomfortable, and have very heavy... everything.

no, I mean they drive them themselves (they are 17)

would love one personaly, big boot and great of road, cool car, newer ones are expensive though and id never get insured for less than 4k lol im 17 btw

Land Rover Defenders are cool  Especially the stubby 2-door ones.

They became somewhat of a 'must have' fashion accessory not long back amongst celebrities in the US - don't think it lasted long though.

I miss my Defender 90.

I got rid of it as it was drinking diesel at around 18mpg. And that was with a reconditioned engine...

I really want another one, but a newer one this time. People rant on about the space on the roads 4x4's take up, but a 90 is shorter than a Focus, and only marginally wider.

The big thing with Defenders, is the amount of character I feel they have. Not to mention the immense off-road capability. (yes, I am in the minority of owners who actually used mine off road!)

I love them, and WILL have another. :(

Insurance for a defender is cheap, I have one and you have to remember that they initial series vehicles where designed as a road vehicle/tractor. The current defender has not changed much for the last 20 years, just new engines and gearboxes.

The later 1992+ 200tdi, 300tdi and current TD5 aren’t to slow for a brick on wheels but they are not about speed. Defenders come from a line of workers and do just that (when they are not broken)! But it is a good vehicle to learn how to maintain and drive off road. Uber towing power, can pull down a house, and the ability to drive you mad but at the end of the day you can’t beat it for what it does! puts a smile on your face :D
