Anyone on here got a Discovery? I'm thinking about buying a fairly old one (94/95) but have a few questions -

1. What are the general running costs of a discovery like?
2. Anything that would be nearing the end of it's life on a 90k mile one?
3. What sort of mileage are the 3.9 v8's good for (assume they have been serviced)

It's only really going to be used as a second car for carrying about loads of kit for mountain biking but the missus will almost definatley be wanting to take it off roading (something we can't do in the FTO that this would be replacing!!)

Any other info or links people might have would be appreciated :)

Only get the V8 if you have deep pockets. My brother in law has one and its er...thirsty!!! You can expect about 15mps max and less off road :p

94/95 - Look out for rust and lots of it, sills, wheel arches, door bottoms, in fact just about everywhere!! The year you are looking at is on the cusp of the series I and series II disco's too, and the II's are miles better.

90k isnt anything for a well serviced diesel but a V8 is different and it should be ok but watch out for smoke etc and especially for overheating.

Disco I Buyers guide

Interesting read (blatant copy of LR literature!) about series II improvements

looks like it might be worth going for the 2.5 TD then :)

i'm not looking to spend to much so think i would end up with the Series 1 disco. I realise £3k isn't much for one of these but is it realistically possible to find a reliable one for that price?

I was reading the other day that despite the V8 being thirsty its a better buy becuase NOBODY wants it and EVERYONE wants the TD so you can get a V8 for often £2-3k less than the TD, which pays for the extra fuel.
