yo guys Ive got a bit of an odd problem.

dfi lanparty ultra d skt 939
2 gig of generic ddr2 ram( 4 x 512 mb) (2 different brand but same speed etc)
X1900XT
single core 4000+

My missus was using my pc the other day when she accidently bumped the tower with her foot causing it to bsod i didnt get chance to write down the error code as the machine rebooted itself....anyway for some reason it wouldnt post , I tried resetting cmos and using safe boot jumper settings with no luck whatsoever so I literally stripped it down and put it back together.

Heres where it gets odd...it will only post with ram in slots 1 & 3 ( i know its those slots according to cpu-z)

see here for pic of system working

and here for cpu-z

Ive tried all 4 modules of ram in slots 2 & 4 and none of them will let me post

you can see from the first pic that i have one module of each brand in slots 1 & 3 and the other modules also work fine but in those slots only!! so i know the ram isnt borked.
What i dont understand is that this machine was working fine so why the slots would just stop working is beyond my understanding

any thoughts or ideas, i dont want the embaressment of returning this board if its somthing ive done myself??

When I had my DFI Lanpart nF4 mobo, it was insanely picky about memory slots. Its suprising it let you have all four slots filled, mine would never allow it... only slot 2 + 4 would it allow me to get passed the POST screen 1 + 3 didnt want to work for some reason.

Have you jumbled the sticks of RAM around or exactly the same positions?

i cant remember tbh which modules i had in which slots before taking it to bits and rebuilding.....but im sure iv tried every possibility

i know that when i had it running i had both of one brand in the orage slots and the other brand in the yellow but this doesnt work now :/

I have that board and couldn't get it to boot with 4 DIMMs. I have 2 (differently) matched pairs of PC3200 and could only use 1 pair at a time. One pair isOCZ Value 2x1GB, the other was Corsair LL 2x512MB. I put them in matching colours of slots, but either colour works with either set.

Hmmm its odd then that i had it working previously with all 4 :/

im wondering if somthing has change somehow in the bios.....

Just lucky I guess! From what I read on the DFI forums, it is very temperamental and they recommend trying 4 only if they all exactly match down to the chip batches!

There are also tales of some types working better in the yellow sockets and others in the orange  It's all a bit voodoo to me.

:( wonder i id have a case or a refund, surely i im using compateible memory its not unreasonable for me to expect for all the ram slots to work at the same time :(
