I have a 1 year old HP dv2000 running what must be the first T5600 @ 1.83ghz Intel did!

Problem is the cooling is not that hot (or rather is!) and the fan runs so much it kills my battery life.

Do you think it would do any good to pop the little baby out and lap it and the cooler? Or maybe sell it and replace with a new CPU hoping it will run cooler?

Cheers guys

Lapping it isn't likely to do a major amount of good, but cleaning off the useless tim and replacing it with something worthwhile should reduce your temps a little.

It doesn't have an IHS, lapping wouldn't be the way forward...

Best bet is to remove the badly applied sticky crap that'll be between it and the IHS. Get all the dust out of the heatsinks/fans. Apply some arctic silver and put back together.

While you're in there clean/re-apply arctic silver to anywhere that needs it. (chipset/graphics) Laptops always have a disgusting mess of badly applied crap inside. :(
