Recently lapped my E6300 and TT120 (DS3 and PC7+ case), rather suprised at the results!! Before lapping max temps were averaging mid 50s now roughtly about 45 degrees.

Fan on the Tuniq is a Scynth 1600rpm running at 900rpm and I have 2 Artic Cooling 120mm fans front and rear pulling air in. Top blow hole fan blowing out.

Good job. More info on the lapping process? What grits did you use etc.? Wet or dry? How far did you lap?

Overclock it further too, get at least 3.2 out of her :)

Was that with the exact same cooling set-up?

Your temps are now the same as my unlapped e6300 which is just at 2.8GHz also.

Would mine drop even more if i lapped it?

I wouldn't bother. It's not worth voiding your warranty since you already have good temps.

I tried clocking it further can't seem to get past 2.8ghz. Raised volts on mem, vcore, changed memory timings but wont post after messing with them. First time I tried clocking so need to read up more regarding straps and things.

I used fine 'dry' sandpaper then finished off with some 1200 wet & dry with a touch of water and a drop of washing up liquid to help it slide then finished up with tim clean and applied AS5 as recommended. Just took it down till copper was showing evenly, no graphs or owt like that used.

My temps were fine before, I only lapped because I had to rma my previous DS3 and the cpu/hs was out. I just like things to run cool and I wasn't bothered about cpu warrenty as I never heard of one busting.

Only cooling change now is my cpu fan has dropped from 1600rpm to 900rpm to make things quieter and I am now using a DS3 rev3.3 board. Also the central heating was on when I did that test so ambient air was slightly warmer.

I idle at load temps :( And that's with a lapped CPU.

Once core is about 4'c hotter than the other... So i think that core isn't touching the IHS properly, and heating up the whole thing :(

If you get yourself a differnt cooler I think you will be suprised. I made the mistake of buying an Arctic cooler Freezer 7 Pro when I was first setting up my Core2 Duo, can't tell you how many hours (and hours) I spent trying to get it cooling my e6300 properly.

People suggested that I check my IHS to see if it was concave and perhaps lapping it etc however I wasn't in a rush to take sandpaper to the processor.

In the end I ordered a Thermalright Ultra-120 (despite reading in a few reviews it was hard to fit) and much to my relief it was a doddle to fit and cooled my rogue e6300 'extremely' well :)

Some people praise the AC7Pro but I say its a false economy to buy a £15 heatsink, especially if you intend to overclock.

Ive ordered some 1000grit paper and will be lapping my 6400 this weekend. Im hoping to reduce the temp delta under load. Idle my CPU is withing a few degrees of the evap temp @ ~-42, but under load the evap temp stays about the same, while the CPU rises to about ~-15.

Yeah I remember you having your experience with it! I think it may be the ACF7, like you say.

I feel bad getting another cooler though - my girlfriend got me this one for christmas :( But I think it has to be done!
