Lapping a CPU

Hi , going to give Lapping a try , so question is how long would you expect to take on lapping ,is it minuets per grade of grit or is it a lot longer ?

It depends on your IHS some need a small amount others are worse, but when you have everything layed out it would normally take less than an hour. Make sure you don't push hard on the CPU you need to let it find it's level and keep changing direction, don't rush and it will be good in no time.

Great thanks for the tips, is it worth polishing it up at the end or just finish with fine grit? If polishing is recommended what do you use

Before you start, it seems to be best practice to draw a cross on the CPU with a marker so you know when you have got the IHS flat. Then you can start to work your way up the grit grading.

you can finish of with a fine grit using the permanent marker (marking a union jack on the IHs) to ensure that it is flat.
