Lapping a Tuniq Tower (Large Images)

Usual process, lapped on flat surface from 240 down to 1500 wet and dry paper. Then applied brass/copper metal polish wadding and dremel with buffing tool about 10 times over and over. Came up better than expected for first time. Have not got chance to install into a spare rig yet but will do hopefully soon.
Any feed back would be appreciated folks. :)

can i ask why you lapped it? was it looking unflat or ? also what sort of decrease in temps have you obtained from lappying the cooler?
 
Took me about 3 hours, was first time doing it and used 6 types of wet sand paper going from 240, 400, 600, 800, 1200 then 1500. On the first few runs had noticed how uneven the copper base was at the sides so to get it flat did take an hour alone. Then just a matter of progressing through the other grades to get a decent flat and shine effect. To finish off the dremel with the buffing attachment and using brasso polish over and over again to get a real brilliant shine. Have not got the chance to try out on another rig yet but hopefully soon, will post the before and after temps along with idle and full load temps too. :)
 
Nickel plated copper to nickel plated copper has a lower thermal resistance than copper to copper, or nickel plated copper to copper. It's not just to stop corrosion or look pretty, it improves heat transfer. Assuming it's flat and thin anyway.

I said this about 6 months ago on these boards and still haven't got around to digging up a source for it though, so don't hold your breath. It's in one of the thermo textbooks I read last year.
