HI all

Some of you may know that I have had problems with my temps (idle45-47, load 50-52). So I removed my HSF & CPU to check for levels and both of them have high ridges using the stanley blade method.

Can anyone give me any ideas/ advice on how to lap both of these items, and how much cooler will my system run after lapping???

Some good videos on youtube on lapping. (but don't go waxing or using other buffing agent on your chip or cooler - that's just crazy).

Improvements from lapping range from 1C to 10Cs in my reading. Only way to know is to try.

Generally though if the chip and sink are flat then little improvement if they're both convex or both converse then high improvement.

Well I lapped my CPU and AC7 Pro and now get 80 degrees at 3.4 under Prime95. A 10 degree improvement but a long way from acceptable.

It looks like I have no choice but to upgrade a a Thermalright 120 extreeme, the expense :(

Crikey I didnt realise that so many people are having the same problem as me:eek:

I havent even tried to OC my quad yet, due to the high temps !!! it will be interesting what we are all going to do.
I will hold back on lapping my CPU as I have only had it for 6 weeks and dont really want to void warranty, not until I have tried other avenues first.

Stoned I am interested in your lapped AC7 so I can compare temps, and also can be used on my sons first build comp, let me know.

Trouble is what HSF to go for !!! TT, TRUE or Silent Knight II  Which one will fit best on my MB?? as TT & TRUE are massive in comparison to AC7
