Lapping advise please (RSX chip on PS3)

When I lapped my equipment I got a better result out of the 1200 than that ... not knocking your effort but 1200 will when done right give a very reflective surface ... could be just the picture though :)

No you're right mate I probably cocked it up somewhere along the line... :( I did the Cell heatsink this morning and it looks pretty much the same.

May be the alloy of the heatsink is just really crap? I'm in the middle of doing the heatspreaders on the chips (which are copper underneath), so will post some pics of that when I'm done!

Cheers,

Suman

Wow, thanks for the constructive input there skippi - are you always this cheerful, or are you on a period?

My console's about a year out of warranty and all my save games are tied to another PS3, so I don't really give a rat's ass about this one tbh.

Ok dudes, all done - tested the contact and it's pretty much perfect on the Cell and vastly improved on the RSX. Had a little scare last night when it wouldn't power on , but I've done a decon-recon this afternoon and just powered it up... cross your fingers for me! Because if it's noisy when I go back to the lounge in about 20 mins, I've just wasted like 3 days of my life :p :D

I wouldn't bother. The whole point of a console over a PC is the plug in and play factor. No setting up let alone hardware mods. Have a read of this
