Sometime ago now (April 2009) I went to Halfords and bought myself a selection of Wet-n-Dry paper (240, 600, 800, 1200 and 1500 grit). Then armed with a piece of glass from a picture frame, small amount of water and some elbow grease I set about sanding the top of the CPU and bottom of the AC7.

OK no huge improvements but i learnt a valuable technique, I could probably get a better finish on both the CPU and the AC7 but needed finer grit Wet-n-Dry paper. Also the metal on both the CPU and heatsink was quite tough and seemed to wear out the paper pretty quickly.

I used Halfords sandpaper to lap my HS and CPU about a month ago and tbh it's not the best quality stuff but it works ok. I found I got a better finish if I didn't use water, plus the paper didn't wear out as quickly.

Hi HaMMuS, can you remember what grit rating the paper was? Also you said sandpaper, did you mean Wet-n-Dry paper :D Any pics of the finished article?
