Hi Folks,

I am half way through lapping my CPU water block using the instructions I got in the lapping kit. I am using a number of different grades of sandpaper on a small piece of glass and using water as a sort of lubricant.

I am going to lap my CPU next but was thinking about the process, do I still use water or do I just use dry paper? I don't like the idea of rubbing my CPU in a pool of water

Cheers

Matt

use the same method but be a lot more gentle and precise and use less water. as long as its dry when its used it'll be fine.

I lapped my CPU completely dry, worked fine. I didn't get a mirror polish finish, but it really doesn't matter as long as it's flat and scratch free :)

or the plastic cover that comes with cpu if you still have it
That's right (although it seems you don't get that black backplate with newer Wolfdale CPU's?). I also seal that backplate on with some low tack masking tape and always lap CPU's dry, light 200-grit, then 400-grit and finish with 600-grit I think!
