Im going to lap my Q9550 this weekend, has anyone got any tips not covered by the guide?
Im mostly trying to even out the temps across all cores as one is consistantly 10C higher than the others..can lapping cure this or am i just going to make things worse?
Also going to do a "minor" lap on my cooler (not mirror finish !!) as i think this is going to be very awkward considering the size and shape of it, has anyone got any tips for lapping a Fan base as most of the guides ive seen only seem to be about CPUs.

thanks

Kinda off topic: Can someone please explain what lapping is?

Cheers

Lapping is whereby you increase the surface contact between CPU and Cooler to maximise cooling efficiency. You achieve this by rubbing the CPU on increasing grades of Wet 'n Dry paper on a flat glass surface until it gleams!

Shine does not actually matter so long as it is flat, but whilst you are at it..... :)

I lapped my X3350 and got basically no difference in overall temps and no closing of the gaps between individual core temperatures. But it was worth doing because now it's all shiny :) :)

hehe good idea will try push first as i have a case fan directly behind which im going to upgrade to a Yate loon and run at full speed

With the TRUE Black i got 2 sets of the wire clips, but im pretty certain that you can buy them seperately anyways.

Maybe just elastic bands would be ok, or cable ties as you mentioned.

had a nightmare getting the fan on with the clips provided is there an easy way to do it?

also where can i get some more clips so i can get another fan on there?
