Iv'e decidded to lapp my e6600 as i'm having slight problems with temps.
I'm running 1.33 volts (3.2 ghz) with a freezer 7 pro cooler, and under orthos its reaching 65c , i know this temp is ok ,just, but i would like a safety margin ;)

I've watched youtube vids on lapping and it all looks prety straight forward. but am a bit woried about static killing the cpu

Are there any precautions i should take or are the normall component handling practices ok ???

I was thinking of a new cooler, but at the volt i'm using i would have thought the ac7 pro was ok , and with recently applied arctic silver5 and a new silverstone fortress case the only thing i can think of is an uneven cpu or heatsink ??
And of cource i'm itching to have a go at lapping :D

LOL, well if you're itching to try, it's good your not using a very expensive CPU for your first attempt. I'm too chicken to lap. There are significantly better coolers than the freezer 7 pro these days, but most aren't cheap.

I lapped my E6600 and with the artic pro7 cpu cooler i put another fan on it to make it push pull and its knocked off 10c @ room temp 30c cpu is now 33c system 39c but thats only at stock, if i increase to my max of 2.8 it is just 39c idle and 49c load, with room temp ' 30c today.
When i lapped the cpu i earthed myself and just fllowed the guide on you tube with the guy using a glass sheet to work on, no pressure just let the weight of the cpu do the work..

lapped my e6600 and its running cooler in my shuttle than it was in a full pc unlapped :D

The first time you lap a cpu you'll be a bit worried, maybe get a cheap LGA775 cpu from ebay to test and get your confidence up

Ill be lapping my E5200 + TRUE sometime next week and you put the pin protector bit on the bottom of your CPU so you dont damage the contact as you do it.
