hi all, mates acer lappy seems to have gone dodgey on the screen. its over a year old so not under warranty any more. problem is that the screen is way too dim like the backlight is not working. if i hold a bright light over the screen i can see the image etc but its way too dim. dunno why this has happened. any ideas what could be dead? could it be the inverter?

it was for me.It was on an old toshiba and i got one that had similar ratings, and it worked a treat.only cost 7 quid delivered off bay.but more legit places for newr stuff.go ahead give it a go.its fairly straight forward swap.

cable

Could be the cable connecting monitor to motherboard. I had this on my Dell Inspiron 5150. Exactly as you describe...very dim....only viewable from odd angles.

Got it done under warranty and they said it was that cable.

Chances are it's either the inverter or the backlight itself. Seems to be plenty of such replacement parts on everyones favourite auction site.

I've seen a few tutorials with pictures on the web about how to change a backlight/inverter. Don't have the links handy, but a quick search should find them. Might be handy.
