looking at spending around 1k - 1.5k on a laptop in a few months, i've always used a desktop but need a bit more mobility these days. The ideal laptop i guess i would be looking at would be something that will last me around 6 years, is very quiet and doesn't overheat, screen size doesn't matter as i can plug it into my monitor when upstairs, any recommendations? performance is important i hate waiting for things to load. the only thing ill be playing it on will be football manager.

If all you want to play is Footy Manager, have you considered a refurb? Im using a Lenovo Thinkpad X220. It's fine for my portability requirements, runs Win 10 Pro, Lightroom, Office and FM16. It was only £300. For a little more you could add a SSD and make it lightning quick.

If performance is important to you then even a £1.5k laptop won't appear to be that great in 3 years time.

A £1.5k laptop should only be bought if you need the best performance now or you would like a high quality ultrabook.

Otherwise a £750 laptop now, and then another one in 3 years time will ensure you don't have an aging laptop towards the end of that 6 year timeframe you've given.

Just an example of what is out there
