Laptop £200 Budget

Hi Guys,

My Mum is moving into a new place and has decided that she wants something smaller than a desktop to save space. I suggested a laptop, so I was thinking of getting her one for Christmas.

She doesn't play games, all she would do is use it for Facebook, Youtube and Microsoft Office.

Any suggestions?

£200 is a fairly tight budget especially if looking at new.

A Lenovo B50-30, is about the best you could get, which has 4GB RAM, dual core celeron, 500GB Hard drive.

Avoid anything with less than 4GB Ram, as it will be an absolute dog, even if only used for Web/Facebook.

For a lot more options (e.g. bigger screens, SSDs, I3 Processors), then you are looking at nearer the £350 mark.

How old is the pc she is using now? For £200 it's going to be a slow laptop, I have seen cheap laptops that struggle with 1080p on youtube. If the pc is only a few years old a £200 laptop might be a downgrade.

Just anyone that bought a netbook a few years ago what it was like to use, even when new.

Your Microsoft Office requirement is going to blow your budget. A Chromebook is your best option for that budget, but it's going to feel cheap. That's unavoidable.
