I've been looking around for a laptop and noticed that a few have an option for 6gigs of ram, one stick of 2gig and one of 4gig.

Now im not quite sure how ram works anymore because I havnt been in the loop for quite a while, but for dual channel to work properly dont the two sticks need to be the same?

Basically I have an option for 4gig (2x2), 6gig (2x4) or 8gig(4x4). Im going to be using this laptop for web design so will have loads of programs open at the same time, photoshop, flash, visual studio etc.

What option would be best for this compared to pricing? Basically whats best bang for buck?

Cheers.

Cannot say without knowing the price of the options and roughly what the rest of the laptop is. I'd think that web design and photoshop are unlikely to need 8 gigs somehow, but if the price is reasonable then you may as well.

At the implied price range, the ocz diy laptops are worth looking into. Could save yourself a fair bit by not getting a ridiculous graphics card, and put the saving towards an ssd?
