Laptop £350

The old man is after a new laptop with a budget of £350.

I know f-all about them so need your advice

He's currently got his eyes on this Toshiba:

He does a lot of video converting/burning.

Can you spec him any better for his needs for £350?

not keen on the dual core athlon, or the 2GB tbh. He'd be better off with a i3, with 3-4GB. There are loads around, but I'd target an Acer, Samsung or HP even. Will probably be a 15'' rather than a 17'', with a 1366 x 768 resolution.

Will most likely be over budget by around £50 if he wants a 17'' i3-i5, which would be better for CPU intensive tasks.

Much better for his purpose imo, although the HD isn't massive for video storage. Note that a 17'' will have a resolution of 1600 x 900, which gives more screen space. Check with him to see if it's a deal breaker.

There are possibly better deals around, but can't check myself until I get my home broadband connection sorted.
