Laptop AC adapter... dead?

Hi,
My AC adapter for my laptop doesnt appear to be working. Instead when I have it plugged in it doesnt do anything except emit a low volume beeping now that comes from within the black box. I take it things have gone pear shaped?
 
What laptop make and model do you have?

I had this problem with a Dell XPS and I thought it was the AC adaptor when it was in fact one of the ram sticks inside the laptop.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop, about 2 years old. How did you fix it? I tried another adapter and its working fine, its just my original adapter.
 
Ah sounds like a different problem to mine. You tried buying a new ac adapter? Either contact Toshiba directly or find an ac adaptor on a certain internet auction site ;)

Don't think they are very cheap, but if it is definitely the ac adaptor don't think you have a choice.

Yeah, Just bought one from the 'bay' that begins with 'e'.... £32 quid, thats all I need after coming off holiday and overspending. Im so skint now its outrageous, although I won a tenner on the lottery yesterday.
