Greetings one and all :)! First time poster in the overclockers forum, but ive been a happy customer of their online shop for many years and am even sitting in front of one of their computer screens right now :D

I have recently aquired a new laptop and im looking to obtain a few pieces of external hardware to support it and require some advice...

Firstly im looking for a power solution which could prolong the use of a laptop, so that instead of lasting perhaps 2 hours on its battery through intensive use without mains access, I can get closer to 4 hours... I have seen various external power pack options scattered about the internet and I was wondering if people recommend any particular solution for this problem, or if I should steer clear of such things altogether for the well-being of my laptop!

Secondly, I am trying to sort an external storage solution for a laptop and am a little unsure of what exactly I should go for...

If i was to purchase a Akasa Elite eSATA/USB 2.0 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure like this one here:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-008-AK&groupid=1657&catid=1660&subcat=1670

And i put a Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB in it.. like this one here:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-327-WD&tool=3

Would I have a cheaper than adverage solution to backing up files and storing videos? And would it be a *sensible* device
to use for watching movies off of?

Thanks for your time, help and advice everyone! I much appreciate it :) and i do really hope ive posted well and in the right place :)

Are you able to but a larger capacity battery for your laptop? That way you'd have the original plus the high-capacity one giving you over double runtime.

If you're planning on travelling with your external storage, consider a smaller 2.5" drive and a caddy which does not require an external power adapter.

Its a G150 laptop, Removeable 8 cell smart lithium-ion battery pack 76.97Wh... Unfortunately I know little about batteries so im unsure if a larger battery would work/fit... ill ask about :D

I did consider the larger internal battery intially, but carrying around anything with my laptop to boost its battery life really does not concern me. Any kind of power storage unit, which would be capable of powering a laptop would do me just fine if it will fit into a rucksack with my laptop... Ive looked at lots of different options.. The only one im really not keen on is solar energy due to is obvious lack of efficiency.

The external hard drive solution doesnt need to be portable as such... I have inbuilt SSD within my laptop setup, so I have plenty of space internally, as well as small portable 4gb memory sticks for saving daily work on. My intention is to use the hard drive as a method of backing all my work up at home in evenings incase anything should happen to my small portable devices. Its also to store and run movies off of, hence the need for such a large 2TB storage solution.
