Here's my current/in the process of buying setup:

  • AM5 Desktop for gaming
  • HP laptop for work
  • Alienware aw3423dwf
  • MX Keys Plus keyboard - wireless
  • MX2S Mouse - wireless
  • 2.0 active speakers (not yet bought but that's the intention)
  • Epsom printer
  • Dell 3100 Displaylink hub

I tried to plug the monitor into the displaylink hub via the USB to USB connection to use it as a USB hub, but it didn't work.
Is there any way I can share the monitor between the desktop (displayport) and the laptop (HDMI) without using a KVM, and have the speakers, printer and logitech wireless receiver plugged into the USB on the monitor so the keyboard and mouse are permanently connected?
I want to get the full 165Hz when using the desktop and most KVM's limit you to 120Hz at 1440p.

I work from home and this is how I have mine setup. Unsure how much of this will help with your situation.

DP cable from monitor to Gaming PC
HDMI Cable from monitor to laptop.
USB Switch, This allows me to connect the switch to my laptop and my desktop at the same time via 2 x USB cables. This has 4 x USB ports on it that allows me to toggle my keyboard and mouse between my desktop and laptop.

I only ever have 1 of these on at a time (but I could toggle between them), the monitor detects the signal from either the laptop or desktop and then the hub does the same. There is a button on the USB hub that allows me to toggle between the desktop and laptop if I ever do need to have both on and then manually change the input through the monitor menu

I did have a Lenovo Dock supplied with the laptop but like you I could never get this to work with anything and I gave up trying.

This is what I do for the monitor and anything USB related like keyboard and mouse etc, The usb switch has power as well but as I only use a keyboard and mouse It works fine, Power is needed for external drives.

For Audio I use the laptop speaks and on my desktop I have some Logitech speakers.

For printing my printer is wifi enabled so can be seen on the network by both

Thanks for that. Pretty much the same as me then. Not sure why I didn't think of a USB switch until now! I won't be using both machines at the same time so this makes perfect sense.

No problem at all

I used to move my keyboard and mouse over each time when I used to switch machines but it became annoying\hassle each time.

My desktop is on the desk and my laptop sits under the desk on a set of draws, I do not use the laptop apart from turning it in and then closing the lid again.

I've had a quick look on OCUK and cannot see this is something they sell so ill link to the 1 I have (They sell USB hubs not switches)

Seems to be unavailable but I did buy it 2 and a half years ago, you get the idea of what to look for though
