Laptop and internet issues

hey there

Just trying to sort my gf's laptop out, sorted a few issues out, but the main issue is that it always has trouble connecting to the internet. It says connected but no internet page opens, also the internet computer tab in the task tray, does not have the green concentric circles (worlds) to say its connected. sometimes this can be resolved by trying to sign in to msn.

Bit stumped so any help would be very much appreciated. TIA

When it says 'connected' are you able to ping any websites? Also have you tried resetting the router and then creating a new Wireless LAN connection on the Laptop?

can ping websites fine.....results coming back fine, i haven't tried resetting the router and creating a new wireless LAN tho, do you think that will resolve the issue?

since pinging its connected, but my guess is only temporarily.

I would try reseting windows firewall if used and the winsock. Go to a command prompt and type netsh firewall reset then press enter then do netsh winsock reset and press enter then reboot PC when asked to. If that fails also try deleting your temporary internet files and reset your internet options.

Tried resetting the firewall, but when doing so it comes up with 'operation requires elevation' still a bit stumped...
