does anyone know how to get rid of the amazon and ebay crap on toshiba laptops, no matter how many users i create i always manage to get an amazon and ebay widget bar and shortcuts in my internet browser, i know it probably has something to do with the registary but it just it annoying me.

Have you checked and removed anything that looks related in Add/Remove programs? Haven't come across stuff like this pre-installed before. Isn't toolbars or similar, is it?

i've removed any toolbars and can't see anything ebay or amazon related in the programs and features in control panel.
i remember working on an acer pc once and they managed to hide the settings in the local settings in the user folders, i still can't believe why they would go to such lengths to create what is essentially adware, oh well thats commercialism for you i guess.

Reinstall windows from the beginning? I know it's a drastic measure but I believe your windows key should work for a fresh install.

mm yeah thought of that, i dont have a 'clean' copy of windows on me though, just the tosh restore disk, it will just install the stuff again. thanks anyway though.

You could check in the Default user and All Users directories (Off C:\Documents and Settings)
Default is what new users get set up with
All Users is what everyone gets at any time

If it's Vista you should be able to order a Windows Anytime Upgrade disc from Microsoft. This is actually a full retail copy, without a license (all Vista discs, bar some Dell OEM ones, are the same 1's and 0's) and you should be able to use the key on a sticker under the computer to install it. You will need to do phone activation (OEM is pre-activated normally) or use Activation Backup/Restore (ABR).

I'm lucky in that I have access to a MAPS (Microsoft Action Pack Subscription) so I have a clean Vista disc, but the first thing I always do is a fresh install on a laptop.

edit: Just remembered, if you are on a version of Vista lower than Ultimate there may be an Anytime Upgrade disc saved on your hard-drive (laptops sold in 07 and 08 have it, discontinued on newer laptops) in a folder called WAUUPGRD either in c:\ or c:\windows. You can use vLite to burn a full Vista install disc from that too.
