I've got a laptop just sitting around not doing much and figured I could put it to some use.
Is there a way to use the screen as a second monitor? I'm not talking about ripping everything apart to use it, I'd like to keep it in one piece ;p

I've already got it plugged into my second DVI on my 8800gt, using a VGA cable and one of the DVI/VGA converters. It's being picked up as a second monitor in the properties/settings, however I can't seem to extend on to it.

Was this just a fluke, is it actually possible?

The port on the laptop i predict is output only, ie you shouldnt be able to input the signal from your pc into it, there are programs however that can make it a second monitor by using a network connection, think it could be called maxivista, It costs £15 however, but theres a free trial you can use first to see if you like it, not sure if theres any free alternatives out there

read http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/northrup_multimon.mspx for more information

Ah cheers, that looks pretty good. Will give the trial a run and see if it's worth the cash :)
