Laptop batteries - looking after them

I've got a laptop but I have it plugged into my monitor and on mains most of the time.

I was wondering whether it would be *a lot* more beneficial for the battery life if I removed the battery and just plugged in into the mains....if there isn't a significant benefit that can be seen, I would rather just have the flexibility of being able to unplug it and take it where I want to work and it be ready to go.

So what do you think? By having it plugged in and it being fully charged and I affecting the charge cycles and ruining the battery life or is it fine to leave it plugged in?

Thanks.

this topic has been brought up lots of times, I personally leave them in its a portable unit to me, i take it from room to room etc.

Leaving them in won't reduce the life as such they're are designed to be, they won't over charge either, but excessive heat will and they will also die with time anyway, this is just the nature of lithium ion.

I've read from various places it's a good idea not to leave it plugged in all the time. Every day or so I unplug mine (even if it's still at my desk) and run it down to at least 40% charge (as advised). I'm not sure why or how it makes a difference to the battery, but I'd prefer to keep it in good shape.

i agree that i rhink the battery will wear down if you leave it in all the time from built up heat. so whenever im home, the battery stays out of my machine and mains is on.
