Laptop Battery Revival?

Right, really old laptop (Toshiba Tecra 8000) with a Li-Ion battery. It's been sitting behind the sofa for years now, and just recently I've got it out and installed Windows on it, etc.

The battery has never really been used. When plugged in, the battery will charge for a while (anywhere from 5 secs to 20 odd mins) and then it will switch off. Once it does this, the system no longer recognises the battery is there (Battery #1 not present).

If I take out the battery and put it back in the same thing happens again. By doing this a few times the battery has reached 12% charge, but it keeps stopping charging.

Can I get this battery back to working condition? I know Li-Ions have no memory. Any ideas appreciated.

You can't revive lithium batteries, if a cycle/discharge only gets a few percent of usual run time it's knackered, and nothing you can do about it. Unlike NICD's as few cycles might recover the cell.

If it's not fully charging that's the charge circuit cutting out, you don't want to bypass that and overcharge as lithium batteries will catch fire if you do.

Dispose of it and buy another battery. Lithium batteries have a finite lifespan, even if it's sitting on the shelf and not being used.
