Laptop blank screen when charger plugged in

So I have an HP elite book and when the charger is plugged in after it boots and gets to windows 8 login it goes blank, you have to press sleep and then wake it for it to work on the charger, I have tried 2 different chargers and it does the same thing.

Has anyone else seen this with windows 8? It was fine on 7, never did it but with 8 it doesnt like the charger.

looked into power settings and stuff, its only when it boots.....

I work in IT and sometimes googling for an answer is fruitless...

Try and take the battery out and leave it in the charger (should run in AC mode just like a desktop, no battery) and see if that works

Assume it's not as simple as when booted on external power it is only trying to display on an external monitor?
