Hi all,

Ive just refurbished a laptop that I bought cheap, and it all works well, Ive stuck win7 on it.

The only problem is the screen is a bit dim. Its an ex work laptop, compaq nc6220.
I cant get the keyboard control (fn&F9/10) to make it brighter - ive done a clean install using windows drivers, but had to download the intel chipset and wi-fi drivers from the net.

Is there any other way I can adjust the backlight as it seems to be stuck in some kind of dim low power mode which is a little annoying - I dont think there is a fault, as I dont recall this issue before I reformatted it.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi, thanks, the only display options seem to be to do with powering the display off, after 20 min, when closing lid etc.
I cant see anything related to brightness, but I am new to win7 so i may be missing an option somwhere.
I cant help thinking im missing some utility or something as is was installed with a corperate XP image before, and ive stuck on a regular retail version of win7...

Hi, the scrren is fine, its not that dim, but dim enough to be annoying unless im lookin 100% straight on.

I've concluded the ccfl backlight is past its best - i did find some screen options in the intel graphics utility, but the bulb stregnth is just weak no matter what I do.

Im gonna get a new backlight, seen one for about £10, and an inverter for a quid.
Looks like a job I can cope with - anyone done this before? do i have to use parts for my model or are generic ones ok?
Is it worth renewing the inverter at the same time?
