Hi,

My laptop (Vostro 1500 / Vista 32x) has developed a strange condition where sometimes when it boots up hits a BSOD after post (so when trying to load windows), then reboots, post, BSOD ad infinitum.

I've tried all the permutaions of safe mode / last known good configuration etc and none work. The only cure seems to be if I switch it off and leave it for a few hours which seems to fix it.

Suspect it might be some sort of hardware fault / over-heating, but not sure how to check this.

Is there a way I can review the crash logs from the BSOD? Will this potentially help me work out what is going wrong?

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Cheers,

Fred

I had a look on the event logs but the BSODs from morning of the 15th Sep didn't show up, guessing windows wasn't loaded enough to record them?

Could this be a hardware fault? My laptop started doing this a few weeks ago so I did a clean install of windows which seemed to have fixed it but now it's come back.

Possibly related to a vista update (the first time it happened the 2nd time round was following a re-boot from a vista update).

I'm completely at a loss as to what to do here. Should I just do another clean install and hope for the best?

I've still got a Dell warranty on the laptop itself so I guess I could get Dell to look into it.

What do you guys reckon I should do?

If its under warranty, always get them out to replace it. could try slaving the drive into another pc and see if you can see anything. but does sound liek hardware if when you leave it for a while, it goes ok again...

Ok will give dell a call tomorrow.

Was hoping to work from home tomorrow via VPN, so just praying it can hold it together for one last big job :D
