You could maybe ship a machine over from the US, it would only be due Tax (no import duty on notebooks).

You can find a company who actively deal with exporting them on a well known auction site, they do a "clevo barebones" but I would look into their complete systems.

Could always keep an eye on dell outlet.

Had XPS L702x on for £720 inc del last weekend with corei7 and 3gb nvidia 555m, blu ray, 8gb etc.

I admit they aren't always there, but def worth keeping an eye on if you can wait.

For the price thats pretty bad.

The GT555m is much weaker than the 460M or 5850 mobility that can be had in much cheaper machines.

EDIT: Look at the G150 (available from a UK based resller), £1000 gets you a GTX560M or £1080 (worth the money) Gets you an HD6970 2GB GDDR5! Both include a 15.6" 1080p display.

Either of those will slap a system with a GT555m so hard.

EDIT2: Forgot to mention the G150 also comes with a 2yr warrenty as standard, 500GB Western digital 7200rpm HDD, 1080p display and high end intel wireless adaptor.

Well if you intend to use it for gaming the G150 will be around four to five times faster.

If gaming is very much a secondary thing then the dell is ok.

Also remember that the 2 year parts and labour warranty is default on the G150.

GT540m = 96 shaders, 4 rops, 128bit DDR3
GTX560m = 192 shaders, 24 rops, 192bit GDDR5
HD6970m = 960 5 way shaders, 32 rops, 256bit GDDR5

Hmm I'll have to compare them, I'm looking to buy it tomorrow if I'm getting the Dell as all the offers are only on until the 9th.

GT540m = desktop GT430 (slightly lower clocks)
GTX560m = desktop GTX550Ti (lower clocks but no mismatched ram)
HD6970m = desktop HD6850 (a bit lower clocks)

That might help you translate it.

It came out as £1271.40 when I changed the CPU and everything else to the same as the Dell, but with regards to the GFX cards I'm massively out of the loop. The desktop machine I'm going to be replacing has a GTX285 so I know what that's like.

I can't afford £1271.40 to get the HD6970m

It's £1176 with the 560m which again I can't afford.

The other thing is that I don't want a glossy screen.

Does the Dell have one? If it does I don't want either, I can't stand glossy screens no matter what it does to the black levels.

Well what kind of work are you doing with the machine? Do you need a fast quad core? The faster dual cores only cost a little more.

Just don't expect the dell to last as any kind of gaming machine is all I mean.

If that's not going to be it's primary purpose then getting a lower powered GPU makes sense.

Hmm, I mainly play a bit of COD 4, MW2, BLOPS, but I was kind of hoping that something will run BF3 as I might buy that.

/edit gonna close this and open a new one with the correct budget in the title.
