Hi

Okay, I have inherited an old laptop that uses a Prism internal wireless adaptor on XP. If I search for wireless networks it finds my neighbour's (encrypted!) but cannot find my "Aspix" network using a Netgear DG834N.

Settings on the router are:

Enable Wireless Access Point On
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID) On

Security: WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]

Settings on the laptop:

Network Auth: WPA-PSK
Data Encryption AES

What bothers me is that it will not show up on the available networks. My phone will happyily conect but not the laptop. It just does not exist!

Can anybody help?

Try re-installing drivers? Sure you got the correct drivers? I had this problem when I had my new Toshiba laptop, they put some cruddy incorrect drivers on there, It took me like 10 attemps to even see my network, when I connected to it I had 500-1000ms pings and stupid download speeds, quick search on the net, found some better drivers and it worked fine.

I'd do that but the laptop detects every body else's connection. My phone picks up my router connection. It is just the laptop refuses to detect my router connection. It is all a bit weird.

Will there be any differences in protocol I should be aware of?

This is a bit of a shot in the dark but:

What channel is the AP broadcasting on, if its on 12/13 change it to something else and see if that cures the problem.

Just on the off chance that the card in the laptop is set up to use only American channels (in Europe we have 1-13, the Americans only get 1-11 IIRC).
