Hi,

Wonder if anyone could help me.

My dad's after a laptop but I really don't know much about them.

He really doesnt need blistering performance but I hear its best to avoid the entry level chips.

Thing is I don't which are the ones to look for.

I would say that we are after the next level up. Core duo's maybe?

Any reccommendations I should look for.

Cheers in advance...

there are 2 main intel chips:

Core Duo
and
Core 2 Duo,

for general usage IE: No gaming

Get hte Core Duo, as you can save about 100 quid there.

We recently got a couple of testers 1 of each processor, to look at for teachers at work, and TBH for general stuff no differance. Not enough to make it worth it, unless your using it to the top of its ability.

Got some AMD ones too and they didn't compare for the money, they were soo poo.

Toshiba are good laptops. (Just ordered 35 for staff at work)

They have a warranty that is if the laptop breaks you get the laptop repaired and the price that you paid for the laptop back - seems a good deal to me.....

hope that is some help

Look for any laptops with Intel Core 2 Duo chipsets, the higher the GHz, the better.

Why on earth do you need a dual core machine for light windows use? Net, email doesn't require dual core. A single core Centrino 1.7ghz is more than fast enough.
