Hi Guys,
Looking to buy a laptop and need a bit of advice, as I've been out of the hardware loop for ages (amazing how little you need to upgrade a PC when you dont play games on it anymore!)
Anyway, budget is about £500 - £600, and it will be used for web development, photoshop, the usual office stuff etc - no gaming but lots of multitasking. I was interested in a DELL vostro, but I need this by the end of the week as my old Macbook pro has to be returned to my old workplace (never liked it anyway and ran it entirley in Windows!). From what I can gather ordering from DELL will take a while, and the ones OCUK sell are a higher spec (and price) than I want.
So, looking at alternatives and I've seen a Fujitsu LI 1818 for £499 incl VAT. SPec is:
# Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5300
# 1.73GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB Cache
# Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
# 2GB Memory
# 160GB Hard Drive
# DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
# 17" Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)
# 128MB Intel GMA 950 Graphics
# Wireless Enabled
# Upto 2 hours Battery life
The 17" screen is attractive (I dont ever use it on the train or anything) and the spec looks good. My questions are:
The Intel GMA 950 graphics - I realise this is hopeless for gaming, but that doesnt concern me. Just want to make sure it will be OK for Vista, 2d work in photoshop etc and it wont bog the rest of the system down.
Performance - how will this system compare to my desktop, which is running an A64 3200 processor and 2GB of RAM.
How does the Core 2 Duo compare to the Core Duo which is in my old Macbook Pro?
Vista Home premium - I take it this will do everything that my current XP Pro does?
Any alternatives I should be considering? 17" isn't essential
Cheers in advance
