Hi, I'm having some problems with my 17" Sony Vaio and was looking for a bit of advice.

The laptop in question is 6/7 years old and has had very little use over the years, the last time it was used was October last year and all was fine then.

I started the laptop on mains power the other day and it booted as far as Windows and then I got the bsod, I tried to restart in safe mode then in the last know good configuration but no joy. I then did a reinstall using the original Sony discs - still no joy I just got as far as before.

As I've got a few laptop size hdds so I thougt I'd swap out the hdd to see if that was the problem, but no luck.

Before I splash out on a new laptop I'd like to know do laptops have a CMOS battery, I've experienced similar problems with PC's and dead CMOS batterys so was wondering if this might be the same with a laptop.

They will have one somewhere, I had a knackered Acer which had one. It could possibly be a rechargeable one? Only way is to open'er up, or look for a service guide on the net.

Thanks, guess it's time to start hunting around the net.
