Hi, quick question – are there laptop variants of conroe available?

I was thinking about buying a laptop with the following cpu’s, are any of them of the Conroe variety? Or should I wait untill next month when dell start selling quad core turions?

Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Technology with Intel® CoreT 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.00 GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB)
Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Technology with Intel® CoreT Duo Processor T2300E (1.66 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB)

Do you have any applications that you run on your laptop (or would run) that would make use of two processors regularly, let alone 4?

This is a laptop, so you need the greatest performance/watt possible given the applications you run. That will most likely finger the Merom since its faster in predominantly single-threaded apps, which means it can clock down into power saving mode more quickly.

Unless of course you want more of a desktop replacement, in which case get whichever is the fastest (I would hazard that would still be Merom ;) ).

The 2Ghz CPU you mentioned is Merom (mobile Conroe, SSE3, 64bit), the 1.66Ghz is Yonah (SSE2, 32bit).

Thanks for the reply :)

I'll be using the laptop for 3d work, using max + maya, the latest versions of which are 64bit and i presume they are multithreaded apps (or atleast they will be for rendering)
