Laptop coolers

Are they any good? Or are you just better off keeping the laptop on a hard flat surface?

I mean what lap top is it? Does it over heat ?

It's a legion 5 slim 4070. I've had no trouble with it but sometimes have it on my lap which can get quite warm.

So just wondering whether to get a cooler pad or just a laptop tray.
