Hey guys, I'm getting a new gaming laptop which will no doubt be hot, and as my old laptop failed due to heat problems I'm looking for a a laptop cooling pad.

Main requirements are that it cools quiet a bit, Ive seen people complain about a lot of these making almost no difference and in some cases adding to heat. 2nd Requirement is that it is comfy enough to put on my lap, noise doesn't matter as I almost also have headphones in.

I just cant seem to find one that didn't have problems while I was searching on the rain forest so if someone could just tell me about one they have used that they have found to be good that would be great.

Thanks in advance guy.

What size is the machine?
If youre not worried about warranty (what brand is it and what type of warranty do you have?) then consider changing TIM first of all. Then do undervolting of CPU if possible.

I have the Zalman NC3000U
http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?Idx=399
and it does work really well. Even on my undervolted super cooled HP8510p idle was no more than 46C, while with gaming (over 40% o/c graphic card) I will only hit 70C on CPU.
Without the cooler I would get 50C idle, 75-78C when gaming.
Without undervolting and TIM change the machine was easily hitting 90C when doing a Orthos burn bench.

Thanks a lot of the reply man, just wanted to know how comfy it is on your laptop. Think the biggest problem is using laptops on your lap/bed which blocks the fan from getting the needed air to cool everything.

I will be applying some paste, did this with my old XPS M1530 and undervolted so I idled at the low 30s and even full blow at gaming I would only hit around 50-60, till my graphics started to act up and I would idle at 50s.

Well, you can see on pics on Zalman website that it has a raised back with about 1-1.5cm thick/wide support. Front is more curved and sits nicely.
I personally would never keep a laptop on my lap when playing but I dont think it would be a problem.
The design is quite smart as well so cooling should work almost like when on a table as long as you keep things flat underneath.

I just use it on sofa and bed sometimes to watch tv/chat with people not really for playing games.

But thanks for the great advice ill will buy one of these in a week or so.

I bought it about a year ago if not more, so have a look if there was nothing new released in the meantime (other brands). Otherwise, its a good buy anyway I think.
