My HP Pavilion DV61210SA laptop is running too hot. I tried different surfaces for placing the laptop on with very little difference.
The CPU fan is running but the temps are getting close to 80c with very little load.

Can more efficient fans be purchased to replace the existing one.

In short, no. Just make sure the fan/heatsink isn't clogged up with dust, this is quite common on laptops they get quite bad. Blow out with compressed air. I replaced the thermal paste on my old laptop which helped a geat deal too.

Consider undervolting, if you're in need of cooler temps/better battery life. I've done this as routine with all of my laptops and virtually every chip in recent times can run stock speed at its lowest voltage range. Drastic heat reduction, as much as 30C less under load in some cases, and side effect is less fan noise and better battery life.
I use rmclock and throttlestop. Same rules apply for testing as it does with overclocking, prime/ibt etc.. to check for stability.

Thanks everyone for your usefull siggestions.
The heatsink and fine are not clogged up and i have considered a notebook cooler too.
As for undervolting i am not sure what to aim for.

Here is a screenshot and bear in mind i have only been web browsing and writing this when i took the screenshot.
