Laptop CPU - Overheating

Hi,

I have a HP 6735s, it's about 1.5 years old and it's overheating even when idling. Sits around 75-80 degrees in Linux at minimal loads, and crashes when I start doing anything intensive.

Do I have any chance of stripping it down and cleaning / re-thermal pasting the CPU or is it a nightmare to access them in laptops? I've hoovered out all the dust I can through the fan grills but it's had little effect.

Any tips? Or is it time for the bin.

We've got a load of 6735bs in the office (most of which are 2 years old) and we've not had any back with heat issues. I'd suggest that you get it open and have a look, the HP support and drives site will include a guide to stripping down the laptop, although I should imagine that you can get at a lot of things by removing the keyboard. I've had an nx6325 apart without too much issue.
