Hi all,

A few days ago i decided to upgrade my old Acer Aspire 3050 to dual core, so i ordered a AMD Turion x2 tl-58.

Today it has arrived and i took the time to install the CPU, once put back together i turned the laptop back on and reset the Bios to default settings.
Now the problem i have is now the CPU temp is reaching 92c and is turning off, i have checked the heatsink is seated correctly with fresh thermal paste but i still cannot stop the fan screaming at full speed.

Any suggestions??

Can the laptops fans handle the dual core? so the fan isnt up to the job.

Check the Acer forums for a thread about it, see if people have had the same issues?

The 3050 and 5050 use the same coolers but and the 5050 has the turion x2 so the cooler works fine.

im using arctic silver 5 and the machine is ejecting cool air but the fan is screaming and overheating

I would defo try reseating and if that doesnt work a bigger fan if possible. Remmeber however that laptops run hot at the best of times and putting a dual core in a laptop designed for single core is always going to stretch its cooling abilities
