Hi everyone,

wondering if anyone can help, thinking of upgrading my laptop CPU from a C2D E2300. What other core 2 duo CPUs can i put in it? Will it take any of the new 7xxx series? The laptop is a samsung X11. Thanks in advance for any help.

Possibly. If you want to stick with the original Core Duo chips, then you can upgrade to either the T2400, T2500 or T2600. These have speeds of 1.86GHz, 2.00GHz and 2.16GHz respectively. Upgrading to the Core 2 Duo chips, e.g T7XXX may prove a little more difficult. I know for a fact that my laptop which has a T2500, can be upgraded to a C2D T7XXX. However, I'm not sure about Samsung laptops. It may be just a case of updating the BIOS and simply swapping the CPU's. My instinct says it would work, but I wouldn't want you going out and buying a new CPU to find that it doesn't. Your best bet is finding a Samsung forum and asking there.

thanks guys. I think it's one of those times where you think it might be fun to try and do something just to see if you can. I thought that the newer chips were proving a lot faster in benchmarks? Also not sure if there would be an energy saving benefit as well? Anyone had any experience of this?

Tread carefully.

The T2300 is a Core Duo, not a Core2 Duo.

A lot of Core Duo notebook motherboards will not support Core2 Duo and similarly a lot of the Core2 Duo ones will not work with the most recent Core2 Duo CPUs as they require a higher FSB.

Start by checking what yours will support then decide if it is worth it.
