Hey, well I think it's a lost cause but I'm going to post anyway to see if anyone comes up with something.

It's a decent laptop but I dropped it and it was never the same again, at first a format and reinstall fixed it but problems then came back after it took a bit of a knock so this is suggestiong physical damage.

Since the knock the laptop gets rediculasly hot, it can infact burn me it's that hot. This results in the cpu being throttled to the point wehre the pc isn't useable, the laptop easily hits 80 degrees and i'm sweating typing on it at the moment.

Ideas? The heatsink coming loose wouldn't cause the laptop to get this hot so something is causing this laptop to get rediculasly hot now.

There is going to be at least one fan that's conked out because the heatsink's connector has become loose. It may be on the graphics chip or the CPU, but a fan has lost power. Just hook it back up again.

As above. Open it up and see if the thermal module has come loose. A dodgy CPU wouldn't cause the kind of overheating you are experiencing. If it's easy to refit with some new thermal paste then do it. If there's loads of broken clips and things it's time for the bin.

Yeah I was of the assumption the cpu was either some how screwed and stuck at full load most the time which was burning it up or a fan had stoped working. I shall open it up and take a peak later, just trying to sort out my sli at the moment.

a lot louder than I'd anticipated and idling at 50 degrees, though from the looks of it my front fan is spinning slower than the others for no reason as its a new case. 650d so I think the dodgy fan controller is to blame to be honest.

Not having much luck at the moment.
