Ok im wanting to change my cpu in the laptop

HP pavillion DV6122ea and the CPU is a Core Duo T2050, which appears not to be 64bit. Well at least the 64bit Windows 7 refused to install saying the CPU wasnt 64bit capable.

Its running the mobile 945 chipset so whats the best CPU i could put in there?

Don't think that's possible. Laptop mobo is Socket M & the CPU is likely fixed onto & even getting a replacement (processor) might prove impossible.

But your right about current processor not supporting 64bit. That's down to it being Intel Core as opposed to Intel Core 2 :(

T7600 if it can be replaced and if the laptop would put up with the heat output (and also if it supports it in BIOS).
T7600's are not the cheapest CPUs though, still very fast and command a premium price.
T7200 maybe? T5500 if you really want 64bit support and are on a budget.

I'd wager it could be replaced, only time I've ever seen them soldered in are on ULV portables.

I would get a Core 2 Duo if your BIOS supports it. A good bit faster clock for clock and same TDP.

laptop CPU's tend to be soldered to the motherboard, so upgrading is a no-go. Why not run Windows 7 x86 (32-bit)?
The CPU is upgradable on this laptop, I already checked. A Core 2 Duo would provide a significant increase in performance as well as allow the use of x64 OSes, it's a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion :)

Whilst upgrading I tihink you would really notice the difference if you could get another Gig of RAM in there as well.

Depends how cheap you could find it I guess and also if the RAM slots are easily accessible.

2 GB would be about £20 secondhand on the internet. I guess you would need to buy two gigs as the current arrangement is 2x512

Its got 1.5Gb in there now a 1Gb and a 512Mb stick. Ive got an ad in MM for another 1Gb stick to take it up to 2Gb which i think is the max the 945 chipset will take

I was all for buying a 2Gb stick and putting the 1Gb in as well to try for 3gb but i dont think it will take a 2gb module.

Theres several biosses newer than the one im using as well but im very reluctant to flash it incase i end up bricking the laptop

Ive got an old pentium dual core laptop cpu lying about, i cant be 100% sure if its working as i broke the screen on the laptop it was installed in, chip is an intel pentium T2080, code name, yonah, socket 479, 1.73ghz. Laptop was a fujitsu siemens LI1718.

Link to cpu specs.

If you think its any use to you your welcome to it.:)

All the generic mide sized laptops I've owned or had in my possesion have always been able to take a CPU upgrade. (Not convinced about my Vaio TZ?)

I've yet to see a mid sized laptop with a CPU soldered onto the motherboard.

Make sure ( visually if possible ) exactly what socket type yours is. There are 2 types for chips similar to yours, socket M and socket P.

Both sockets are pin incompatible and although the cpu specs may be the same they will NOT fit into the other socket.

There was a great guide i used when i upgraded my laptop last year but im damned if i can find it... just make sure you have visually confirmed your socket type before searching for a cpu and then check the model number of any likely cpus on intels site to confirm the socket type and FSB type.
