Laptop CPU's

What should I be looking for in a laptop CPU?

- I would like desktop power similar to at least core2duo 1.8ghz.
- Would like to avoid AMD.

Are Celeron and Centrino underpowered?
Are the 'core 2 duo mobiles' less powerful than 'core 2 duo'?
What about Centrino 2's?

Centrino is a platform (i.e. collection of hardware parts, mobo wifi cpu).

any core 2 should be fine but it really depends on your usage requirements

Mobile C2Ds seem just as good as the desktop versions to me. I have a T8300 (2.4 GHz, 3mb cache) in my lappy and that does SuperPI 1M in 20 seconds, whereas the E6750 (2.66 GHz, 4mb cache) I used to have in my desktop would do the same test in 19 seconds.

SuperPI iirc is also ram dependent.

Why no AMD? I am looking at laptops at the moment and AMD seems to offer better value.

got a centrino 2 T9400 2.53ghz 6mb cache in mine, no idea what its capable of tho
