Got a laptop in today, everytime i try to boot it up the post screen appears, but flickers and goes away, then nothing else comes up.

been charged for hours, but think that the battery is to blame tbh.

any way of checking the battery or do i have to buy one to know weather that is the problem or not?

A dead battery won't cause these kinds of symptoms, it sounds like the back light possibly if you can see a very feint image on the screen. If no image then possibly the screen itself. Is it ok on an external monitor?

Ahh meant to say that mate, the same appears on my monitor, just flickers then goes onto standby.

cheers

Going by that i would say its the graphics chip, now this could be on a seperate board or intergrated into the mainboard depending on which model it is. It could just need a reflow or a complete new mainboard.
