Laptop Dead??

My friend gave me his laptop to fix and not sure whats up with it. Basically it will not turn on, although when you plug the charger in the charging light on the laptop lights up. Tried taking the battery out and running it through the mains but no joy. Tried taking it apart but there are ribbon cables connected and didnt want to rip the back of it completely.

It a Packard Bell EasyNote laptop.

I think he might have burned it out as he said it is hardly turned off. But because the charging light is coming on it cant be completely dead.

Any suggestions??
